About Brad

As a lifelong resident of Sackville Uniacke, I am proud to be the third generation of my family to call this community my home. Although I have always lived in Middle Sackville, I did have a seasonal home in Mount Uniacke for 10 years, and my youngest brother and his family still reside there. I know Sackville - Uniacke because I grew up here, I live here and I work here.

As a youth, I attended the Middle Sackville family of schools, (Middle Sackville, Maxwell and Lucasville Elementary schools) and was in the first grade six class to attend Harry R Hamilton Elementary School.

After attending Sackville Heights Junior High, I graduated from Sackville High School in 1988 and went on to pursue a Bachelor of Arts degree in Canadian History from Mount Saint Vincent University. While in university, I started a successful small business that employed 5 people (BJ the DJ). I also worked part-time for the Halifax Regional School Board as a teacher's assistant with special needs students and worked for two years with inner city youth. After university, I was the librarian at a local Junior High school for a year and had planned on entering the Bachelor of Education Degree to be a teacher.

At the time, I never dreamed of entering into politics. However, after encouragement from friends and family, I ran and was successfully elected Municipal Councillor, a position I held for 16 years from 2000-2016. Additionally, in my role as Councillor in the largest municipality in the province, I had the opportunity to sit on a wide variety of community and HRM boards and committees, including having been Deputy Mayor.

In 2017,  after a contested nomination, I became the Progressive Conservative candidate for the Constituency of Sackville - Beaver Bank in the 2017 provincial election. I successfully won the seat. I ran again in 2024 in the new constituency of Sackville - Uniacke and after winning a second term was made Minister of Justice and Attorney General for Nova Scotia.

I have always enjoyed working closely with people and in the community. During University I became involved as a Leader with 3rd Sackville Scouts and at 21 was employed for four years as Director for Camp Lone Cloud, a summer camp for youth, located in Fall River. Later my interest in the well-being of the community led me to volunteer with the Sackville Freemason Lodge and the Sackville Kinsmen, where I received the “Rookie of the year”. I am also a Life Member of the Springfield Lake Rec Center and a repentant of the Nova Scotia Lieutenant Governor Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee Medal.
